Shared Successes
Legacy Health, an eight-hospital system based in Portland, Oregon was experiencing bond covenant issues, turnover in its executive leadership team – including the loss of both its CEO and CFO – and unfunded state mandates.
Legacy’s Board of Directors determined the system needed a capital partner and entered a Letter of Intent with Oregon Health and Sciences University.
Legacy partnered with Warbird Healthcare Advisors to secure a seasoned, strategic chief financial officer with significant experience in transactions and integrations. The CFO’s initial scope of work was to serve on an interim basis as the transaction advisor for Legacy’s leadership and board, but as the merger process shifted, so did the role.
In May 2025, both Legacy and OHSU opted to terminate the transaction. Legacy’s leadership – including Warbird’s CFO – had to immediately adjust and reorganize.
Crucially, the CFO was able to pivot quickly from a transaction focus to ongoing operations and finance, with no hesitancy or loss of efficiency.

Melody Trimble, a Warbird leadership consultant, will be on-hand at The Healthcare Roundtable's CFO event to share the impact of organizational culture on executive and financial leadership.

Doug Johnson, a managing director with our Affiliations, Mergers & Acquisitions service line, is attending the American Health Law Association's Health Care Transactions conference on April 13-15 in Nashville, Tennessee.
